Whether you are surprised or not, Wilmington, North Carolina has a pretty decent taco scene. The are a lot of options, some authentic Mexican style tacos and others creative takes on what a great tasting taco should be. There are so many taco places in Wilmington we wrote an article specifically on this topic.

It was a Sunday late-morning and we wanted to get something to eat, so our team headed to downtown Wilmington to see what was open. We happened to come across TacoBaby, a creative, 80s style taco shop focused on women and feminism.

TacoBaby combines a hip lounge and bar with a taco restaurant serving a variety of “street style” Mexican dishes. On a Sunday we were met with only a few choices and had to stick to a strict brunch only menu.

We ordered breakfast tacos and a burrito, along with tasty bloody marries and headed upstairs to the seating area, which was decorated with fun, women inspired art.

When the food arrived we dove into one of the largest collections of taco sauce and hot sauce in the Cape Fear area and splashed the goodness on our tacos delight. The food was flavorful and tasted as hip as the restaurant.

We finished the drinks and the food together and promised ourselves we would return and try the standard menu and see if it as good and amazing as the brunch menu is.

The best way to describe the tacos are that they are gourmet street tacos with attitude. Not something you find on the streets of Mexico or some Central American city, but what you would find here in Wilmington, North Carolina.

TacoBaby, we will be back. And you should too…
